New Building Technology Decreases Need for AC
Phase-changing materials that use parrafin wax capsules to absorb and distribute heat may help cool homes in the near future. National Gypsum, the first American manufacturer to use phase-changing materials, is currently testing the technology in its ThermalCORE PCM drywall panels. The product will help meet rising demand for greener building materials and energy savings on heating and air-conditioning. Builders: Register for Parade of Homes and Contest
Builders can still register for the fall Parade of Homes sponsored by the Kansas City Home Builders Association by the late registration deadline July 16. The cost is $1,995. The Parade of Homes will take place Oct. 2-17 this year with free admission into hundreds of homes open daily to the public. Participants can also enter a contest for "Distinctive Plan" and "Pick of the Parade" awards. Early registration is August 20, and the cost is $200. Be a part of this Kansas City tradition!
Home Buyer Tax Credit Extended
On July 1 a law went into effect to extend the closing date and federal tax credits for first-time homebuyers to September 30. To be eligible, you must have bought or entered into a contract on a home on or before April 30. According to Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine, qualified homebuyers can receive the up to $8,000 tax credit more quickly by filing an extended 2009 tax return rather than waiting until next year.
